About Legal Services

The YWCA Legal Services program helps survivors of intimate partner violence understand and navigate the civil legal system, including domestic violence protection orders and family law cases that are in Pierce County Superior Court. Our advocates can help with divorce/legal separation, child custody/parenting plans, child support, spousal maintenance, modifications, contempt, paternity, address confidentiality program, protection orders, and safety planning.

How much does the YWCA Legal Services program cost?

The YWCA Legal services are free.

Do clients need to have a case in Pierce County to be eligible for the YWCA Legal Services program?

Yes, clients must be survivors of intimate partner violence with a civil or family law case in Pierce County to be eligible. 

Does the YWCA offer court support?

Yes, the YWCA offers limited court support (in the form of being present with client in court during proceedings).

Does the YWCA have an attorney?

No, the YWCA does not currently have an attorney.

What does the YWCA Legal Services program NOT help with?

The YWCA Legal Services program does not provide legal services in criminal cases or other areas of civil law and cannot assist with cases outside of the jurisdiction of Pierce County Superior Court.
