Emergency Shelter FAQ
Is the shelter safe?
Yes, the shelter is safe and confidential with cameras all around the building and a hotline.
Are kids allowed in the shelter?
Yes! Kids are welcome.
Can I stay in the shelter if I don’t have kids?
Yes, individuals can stay in the shelter without kids.
Is the shelter one big communal area?
No, each client/family has their own individual, beautiful apartment-style unit where they can heal in privacy with their own kitchens and bathrooms.
Can I bring my pet(s) to the shelter?
Yes! Pets are welcome in the shelter. The YWCA shelter is one of the only shelters in the area that allows pets and offers comprehensive support for pets, including food, veterinarian care, grooming, and pet deposits for families moving into new homes. Between 25% and 45% of domestic violence victims don’t leave their abusers out of fear for their pets’ lives (American Humane Association).
How do I get into the shelter?
Call our hotline 253-383-2593 and speak to one of our advocates about a phone screening.
How long can I stay in the shelter?
Our shelter program is up to 90 days.
How many people can the shelter accommodate?
Our shelter is located in a converted apartment building with 22 units. We do not double up families, so the maximum capacity is 75 adults and children. The number of residents varies depending on family sizes.
What if there is no room in the shelter?
