What We Do

YWCA Children’s Program directly addresses impacts of domestic violence on children by supporting each child’s basic needs, creating meaningful connections that promote healing, and fostering skills of resiliency, identity, development and self-esteem.

Community advocates provide support to survivors by discussing options specific to each person’s situation through safety planning, resource navigation, and referrals.

Our licensed therapists provide therapeutic support and a space where survivors of domestic violence can discuss personal concerns and begin to develop new strategies to approach life or gain insight to oneself.

In partnership with Housing Pierce County, the YWCA offers long-term affordable housing to survivors of domestic violence. Residents benefit from ongoing support and connection to resources that build long-term self-sufficiency.

Weekly facilitated support groups offer healing, education, and peer support to survivors of intimate partner violence. Participants explore various relationship dynamics, rebuild self-esteem, and develop a positive support network.

The YWCA Legal Program helps survivors of intimate partner violence understand and navigate the civil legal system, including domestic violence protection orders and family law cases that are in Pierce County Superior Court.

YWCA Pierce County provides safe and confidential emergency shelter for survivors of intimate partner domestic violence and their children. Our shelter program includes up to 90 days of housing in apartment-style living spaces, on-site staff to offer comprehensive support services, and is one of the only shelters in the area to allow pets.

Our YWCA Prevention team visits middle and high schools in the community and educates teens and young adults about relationships through a curriculum called Healthy Love. Here, teens and young adults can learn the red flags and green flags in relationships and get connected to resources if they are experiencing dating violence.
